BEFORE YOU START
- The organizer is sent automatically each year (typically January)
- Have prior-year tax return handy for reference
- Have W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, charity receipts, and other tax documents ready (you'll be asked about them)
STEP BY STEP
- Open the Requests tab in your portal — you'll see "Tax Organizer 2024" (or current year)
- Click into it — questions appear one at a time on mobile, scrollable list on web
- Answer each question — most are yes/no, dollar amounts, or simple text
- For each tax document mentioned, you can upload it directly in the same flow
- Save & Continue Later at any time — your progress is preserved
- For roll-forward (year 2+): prior year info pre-fills — confirm "Looks good" or "There are changes"
- Once you've answered all questions, click Submit
- Your accountant gets notified and your engagement moves to the next stage
TIPS / GOOD TO KNOW
- The organizer is questionnaire-based, not a long PDF form — easier to fill out
- One question per screen on mobile keeps things simple
- You can come back anytime — partial progress is saved
- If a question doesn't apply, mark it N/A — don't leave it blank
- Reminders fire every 3 days for incomplete items so you don't forget
TROUBLESHOOTING
- "I don't have this document" — mark N/A or click "I don't have this" — your accountant will follow up if needed
- "I'm not sure how to answer" — leave a comment in the question; your accountant will reach out
- "I uploaded the wrong document" — re-upload; the latest replaces the previous
